He has worked with artists including Sting, Kylie Minogue, Boyzone, Gary Barlow and Gabrielle, helping shape records that reached a global audience.

Mike's Razorwire Rework

A student record, a commercial rework, and the space between them

Before Mike joined LSEM, he spent time listening through releases from Fresh Beats Records, our label home for tracks made by LSEM students and graduates.

Clandestine. Lake Lerge. It's Just Paul. A handful of finished records, each with its own sound and story.

One track stood out. Razorwire, by It's Just Paul, had something in it that Mike couldn't leave alone.

Not because anything was wrong with it, but because he could hear a completely different version sitting inside the original, one built for radio, for major labels, for the kind of commercial reach most electronic releases never aim for.

So he reworked it. New vocal processing to bring the lyric forward. Elements rebuilt using his own studio hardware. A structure reshaped for a different format entirely. What started as a strong idea from one of our students became a full commercial rework, start to finish, in Mike's hands.
